ACTIVE MAINTENANCE

Your Trusted Preventative Dentistry Professionals in Armadale

Prevention is Better Than the Cure

Good dental hygiene is essential if you want to maintain healthy teeth and gums for life. An effective oral hygiene routine involves brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day to prevent the build-up of bacteria each time you eat and drink. Studies show that the join between the gums and teeth provides direct access to the bloodstream, meaning that the condition of your oral health can impact your general health.

A regular check-up and clean is similar to getting your car serviced. If you wait until your teeth hurt, that's like waiting until your car is smoking before changing the oil - it's a little late then! Regular appointments can help detect problems early and may prevent you from unnecessary pain.

At Acorn Dental Centre in Armadale, our trusted dentists and hygienist are passionate about maintaining your oral health through preventative dentistry and recommend you always book a six-monthly routine check-up and clean as part of our active maintenance program.

What is Involved in Our Six-Monthly Routine Check-Up & Clean?

  • Check-up x-rays
  • Scale and clean
  • Discuss your treatment plan and how it can work for you

What is an Oral Health Therapist?

My name is Saara - I work at Acorn Dental Centre as an Oral Health Therapist. I am enthusiastic about providing comfortable and gentle, yet effective, dental care. I place great importance on preventative treatment and education so you can maintain a healthy and happy smile.

I am often asked the difference between an Oral Health Therapist (O.H.T.) and a dentist, this post will hopefully clarify the difference so that there is a clearer understanding for you regarding your dental care.

An O.H.T. is a 3-year degree-qualified clinician who has completed studies in dental hygiene and dental therapy. An O.H.T. combines the two roles of a dental hygienist, who predominantly specialises in treatment and prevention of gum disease, and a dental therapist, who can diagnose and provide restorative treatment such as fillings.

The focus of my profession is very much prevention based - especially in terms of oral hygiene and looking after your teeth! My role at Acorn Dental Centre is to work with our lovely dentists by providing general care and education for your teeth and gums, while they are able to focus on more complex dental work.

You'll mainly be seeing me at your Active Maintenance appointment, where you'll receive a clean from me and a thorough check-up by one of our dentists. At Acorn Dental Centre, we firmly believe in an Active Maintenance appointment every 6 months or even every few months depending on your needs. This allows us to work together with you to take small steps in tracking and preventing issues before and as they arise, ultimately preventing small issues from becoming bigger, more complex and costly to manage.
